MEDICAL AESTHETICS PRE AND POST CARE

Everything you need to know to ensure you are ready for your Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, filler, and injection service appointments (and for caring for yourself afterwards).

  • POST-TREATMENT CARE:

Tips to reduce the amount of bruising and/or swelling you might experience:
    • Avoid manipulation or massage of the treated area, unless instructed by the provider.
    • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
    • Avoid drinking out of a straw until swelling subsides if you had lip filler.
    • Avoid extensive sun or heat for at least 24 hours after your treatment. When out in the sun, remember to wear sunblock (SPF 30 or higher) and a hat.
    • Avoid consuming excess amounts of alcohol or salts to avoid excess swelling.
    • You may apply a cool compress for 15 minutes each hour – with light touch.
    • Use Tylenol for discomfort.
    • Try to sleep face up and slightly elevated the day of and day after treatment.
    • Consider taking Arnica to alleviate bruising and swelling.

  • POST-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS:
    • Don’t manipulate or massage the treated area for at least three hours after the treatment.
    • Don’t undergo facial/laser treatments or microdermabrasion after Botox injections for at least a few days.
    • It can take approximately four days to begin to see muscle relaxation.
    • It takes 14 days to see the full muscle relaxation effects.
    • Don’t perform activities that involve straining, heavy lifting, or vigorous exercise until the day after treatment.
    • Avoid extensive sun and heat for at least 24 hours after your treatment. Remember to wear sunblock (SPF 30 or higher) whenever you’re out in the sun.

  • POST-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS:
    • Try to avoid NSAIDs (eg. Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Advil, Motrin, Aleve) for a few days before and after your PRP treatment. Use Tylenol/Acetaminophen for discomfort.
    • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before and after your treatment to reduce potential bruising.
    • Come in on the day of your treatment with clean hair or skin in the treatment areas.
    • Avoid excessive exercise, sun, and heat for at least 24 hours afterwards. Always remember to wear sunblock SPF 30 or higher and a hat when out in the sun.
    • Don’t wash your skin or scalp for the rest of the day. The day after your treatment you can resume your usual routine.

  • POST-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS:

Following your DCA Fat Dissolving treatment, many patients experience visible improvement in the appearance of the area in just 2 to 4 treatments.

Treatments should be spaced 4-6 weeks apart. We will schedule a follow-up appointment for your next treatment 4-6 weeks later.

There can be a lot of swelling, but remember, once your goals are achieved, follow-up treatments with DCA are not expected.

    POST-TREATMENT CARE:
    • You may take Tylenol/Acetaminophen if you experience any mild tenderness or discomfort.
    • Swelling is a sign the medication is working and less swelling occurs at future treatments. A lot of swelling is normal and common for 1-2 weeks, and mild swelling from 2-4.
    • Drink plenty of water for 48 hours after treatment.
    • Stay in an upright position for 4 hours following an injection. DO NOT rest your head or lie down. DO NOT sleep on your face the night of treatment.
    • Do not apply makeup over the injected area for at least 24 hours (due to risk of infection).
    • Only touch the injected area with clean hands, clean makeup tools, and clean towels.
    • Apply a cold compress for comfort, maximum of 15 minutes at a time every hour.
    • Avoid alcohol, strenuous exercise, and exposure to UV radiation, high heat environments (e.g., sauna, steam room, tanning beds, hot showers) for 24-48 hours. These activities can increase swelling and discomfort.
    • For two weeks, avoid anything that irritates or requires heavy pressure on the skin of the treated area.

AVOID laser treatments, resurfacing treatments, or chemical peels for a minimum of 2 weeks post-treatment, as there is a possible risk of inflammation at the treatment site.

  • POST-TREATMENT CARE:
    • After treatment, a slight oedema or bruising may occur. Sometimes, a slight depression or skin irregularity may appear at the insertion points. These typically disappear a few days after treatment.
    • Apply cold packs immediately after procedure if required (should be wrapped to avoid direct contact with skin and insertion points).

    FOR THE FIRST 24 HOURS:

    • Acetaminophen may be taken in case of pain (2-3 days)
    • Refrain from applying make-up for as long as possible. Make-up may be gently applied after a minimum of 24 hours.
    • Sleep face-up, elevated on pillow for 3 to 5 nights.
    • Do not rub face aggressively when washing, shaving, and drying face for 5 days; be gentle.

FOR THE FIRST 2 to 4 WEEKS:

    • Avoid excessive neck and facial movements for 2 weeks.
    • Avoid participation in high impact sports (example: running) for 2 weeks.
    • Avoid exposure to direct sunlight and UV light for 2 weeks.
    • Do not use saunas for 3 weeks.
    • Avoid dental surgery for 3 weeks.
    • Avoid facial or face-down massages and facial aesthetic treatments for 4 weeks.

  • DURING AND AFTER THE TREATMENT:
    • You may experience a slight stinging sensation as the treatment activates on your skin
    • Skin may begin to peel approximately 48 hours after the treatment and may last up to five days
    • Skin may take on a sunburned appearance
    • The amount of sloughing experienced will vary depending on the condition of your skin and the home careproducts used
    • The amount of peeling observed is not an indication of the effectiveness of the treatment
